Making Tracks – Resources

Before embarking on any adventure it is prudent to do research and then some!

This adventure is going to be no different. Due to the sheer size of J5 and potential cost of this project not only will we be putting in some long days making what parts we can to reduce costs but going out working long hours to pay for those we can’t do ourselves! We’ll no doubt be bouncing off the J5 Builders Community to ensure we stay on target in our aim to create a faithful reproduction of our beloved J5(s).

On this page you’ll find useful information as we come across it that will ultimately aid us in our progress. We’ll cover topics such as how we’re approaching things, tools, materials and of course we’ll document how we’re over coming any obstacles along the way in some posts from time to time.

So first up, where does one begin? Well, it can only be Input-Inc.com!

Input-Inc are like a J5 thinktank of highly skilled individuals. They have been at this longer than anyone else, between them there is not much they can’t be achieve. Honestly, check out their website here, read through their articles and if you are serious about starting a build then download some of their CAD. You only have to spend a little amount of time to see the insane amount of hours they as a team and individuals have put in from the quality of their work! It speaks for itself. Seriously, who CAD’s up the best part of 300 ‘nurnies’ (resistors and the like to you and I) with embossed text?!!

We are always keen to hear about peoples projects but credit where credits due……these guys do NOT get enough praise or recognition.

A lot of the work they have done, the time, energy and personal cost is nothing short of incredible. As a J5 builder and as part of the community I extend my thanks to the team. Without them we wouldn’t have an ounce of what we have currently and when ever you see a J5 at an event, yes these have been built by individuals persevering and credit to them for that but remember its likely on the back of what these guys have paved the way for.

Next up is the J5 community, there are a few pages and groups on Facebook, check them out!

There are people dotted all around the world that will offer advice and potentially ‘part runs’. Before its asked, no one, anywhere, offers a full size replica for sale. Please remember its a BUILDERS community! We build for the fun and for ourselves. Help and assistance is always on hand to anyone who needs it but don’t be mistaken thinking you can just go out and buy all the parts needed off a shelf or that others will sell you theirs. They won’t, its not a quick build and it certainly is not in the spirit of the community. Not to mention, the IP here……anyone trying to sell J5’s I’d imagine would soon find themselves in a heap of trouble with Sony.

Any time a run of a part (of which there are very few!) are found, always check back with others in the community whether a part run is ‘legit’ if you have concerns and should you sign up to any runs be sure when you pay through Paypal it’s via Goods and Services so you have some level of protection against fraud. It hasn’t happened to my knowledge in the group but it has in another I know of. Always be cautious.

As i said, the J5 community is full of people who wish to build their very own replica. Learn from them, ask questions but more than anything feed back to the group. Its how we learn and grow. The more engaging you are the easier you’ll find it to get help. Its about give and take, not just the latter.

I’ll leave a placeholder here for additional information in due course.
